Graduation Ceremony @ RC Deaf Missions Malaysia

It is my greatest pleasure and delight to attend a special occasion; graduation ceremony organised by RC Deaf Missions Malaysia on December 10, 2022. I am honoured to have been invited as a guest to witness the joy of 5 hearing people who successfully completed their Diploma in BIM Interpreting during the graduation ceremony.

According to Agnes Peter, Founder of RC Missions Malaysia. The Diploma in BIM Interpreting programme is a collaboration with the Philippine Association of Interpreters for Deaf Empowerment (PAIDE), which is a private programme that began in 2012. As a result, they have been working together for over 11 years to offer a Diploma in BIM interpreting. Additionally, this programme requires 1.5 years to complete, including pre-and post-evaluations. Once all requirements were met, they completed their diploma. This programme is NOT funded by the government.

During the occasion, it is quite wonderful to see the Batches 1 and 2 who stepped in to interpret for this special ceremony. Congratulations to Aw Wei Chun, Calysta Tay Yilynn, Lee Jun Haw, Pamela Ngeau Seau Wei, and Samantha Bong Hui Ling, who completed their Diploma in BIM Interpreting. Clap for them! Although this programme is difficult for them because it is a unique course that cannot be obtained or accessed anywhere else. Even so, they must learn about, interact with, and socialize with Deaf people, as well as Deaf culture and community. Nevertheless, they choose the places where they enjoy learning and socializing, especially the Deaf Community where they enjoy helping Deaf people with their BIM interpretation.

What's interesting is that I'm delighted to see my teacher, who I haven't seen in a while. We even had dinner together, and it was absolutely wonderful to have a good meal and have a wonderful chat chit while socializing with everyone including my friends. Overall, I am extremely thankful to Agnes Peter for inviting me to this special ceremony and celebration.

Absolutely, I represent Deaf people and am grateful to those who dedicate their time and effort to learning BIM courses in order to help the Deaf Community. Because BIM has a variety of sords still have to learn, there is no doubt that there is more to learn about the Deaf Community and Culture even though they may face challenges when socializing with Deaf people. I wish them all the best in their new professional roles as JBIMs (Interpreters) serving the Deaf community.

RC Deaf Missions Malaysia works hard to train and guide beginners who are interested in learning the BIM course. Because of them, more JBIMs will enter the professional field and serve the Deaf community.

Those of you who are genuinely interested in learning more about BIM. In the future, I hope to hear more people express interest in becoming JBIMs and learning BIM. In fact, because of the lack of JBIM in Malaysia, we expect to hear more people express their enthusiasm for JBIM and BIM. You can find out more on their Facebook Page
