Hing Kee Bak Kut Teh @ Jalan Kepong, Kuala Lumpur

Have you heard of Hing Kee Bak Kut Teh in the Kepong area? Most residents who live in the Kepong area are well aware that it is the most popular and famous for Bak Kut Teh. Surprisingly, this restaurant is the second branch, which is located on Jalan Kepong, if I'm not mistaken. Their first branch is still open on Jalan Kepong. Wow! This restaurant is extremely crowded during the week and especially on weekends. What's interesting is that they won Michelin Bib Gourmand Malaysia 2023.

Thus, my family and I would like to try this restaurant because I have yet to try their signature Bak Kut Teh and it is my first visit. Of course, we had to get there earlier before it became too crowded. Honestly, this restaurant is always crowded when I pass by, especially on weekends. You must explore it yourself to understand why it is so popular in the Kepong area.

The atmosphere is pleasant, and the majority of the display menu consists of Chinese words. I'm not sure if they have a menu that we can look through. Unfortunately, they did not provide a menu and instead instructed the waiter to take our order for the food we wanted to eat at that moment. Anyway, it is a disadvantage for Deaf people like me because we cannot communicate with them in Chinese; however, it would be helpful if they could show us the menu. There is no choice. Anyway, I have a solution: we can show them a food photo from our phone, and they should be able to catch up as we want. Otherwise, if they serve the wrong food, it will be a different story.

This time, we just ordered two claypots of Bak Kut Teh in soup and Tofu Puffs and Youtiao to go with it. However, we did not order the dry Bak Kut Teh and vegetables this time. The soup Bak Kut Teh has a lighter colour and flavor compared to the Klang version and the meat is soft and tender. This is sweeter with mild herbal spices and a lot of garlic in its soup. As a result, we can feel the aroma of garlic.

That's all I learned about the foods we tried. Anyway, I can't write a review about the dry Bak Kut Teh version with vegetables because we didn't order it. So, if you're curious about it, you should look into it yourself. Wow! They are open until midnight.

Overall, I was surprised to see that this restaurant is always packed when compared to other restaurants in the Kepong area, and I really enjoyed their Signature Bak Kut Teh. Hopefully, we can go there again and try their other dishes one day.
