Being Carried at KLPAC: A Powerful Disability Performance in Malaysia

Being Carried is a theatre performance that explores the lived experiences of disabled, Deaf, and neurodivergent people. Through monologues, movement, sound, and visual and spoken languages, the performers shared different perspectives and explored ideas about care, support, and how we carry one another through life. The performance was also a collaboration between Malaysia and the UK.

Back on 24 July 2026, one of my good friends, Kimberly, asked me if I would like to join her to watch Being Carried at KLPAC. Of course, I was happy to join her. I was quite surprised to see that the performance had received so much attention from the public and was sold out. There are KLPAC's offlical tickets were available through online booking only, so we managed to get ours and looked forward to watching the performance.

When the performance started, the stage was dark and quiet at certain moments, which created a different atmosphere. The audience was also advised not to use mobile phones for taking photos or recording during the performance, so I did not take any photos or videos. Instead, I focused fully on the performance and enjoyed watching the performers.

What I found most interesting was how the performers, who came from different backgrounds and had different disabilities, were able to come together and express themselves through their own experiences and feelings. It was quite unique to see their stories brought to the stage in different ways.

I was proud and happy to see my friend, Gejaletchumi, as one of the performers. I could see how much she had improved in her expressions and performance, which made me really happy to see her progress. It was wonderful to see her confidence and effort shining through on stage.

After the performance, all the performers took part in a Q&A session with the audience. It was a nice opportunity to hear more from them and learn about their experiences and thoughts behind the performance. I enjoyed listening to their answers and getting a little more insight into what we had just watched.

I was also glad to see some of my friends there. It was a nice surprise to meet them and made the day even more enjoyable.

Before we left, we were also happy to have the opportunity to take photos with a few of the performers and Grace, the producer of Being Carried. It was really nice to have this special moment together and capture some memories from the day.

Clap, clap! A big round of applause to all the performers who did such a great job. I really enjoyed the performance and was glad to have the opportunity to watch something so different.

Honestly, I am really grateful to my good friend Kimberly for helping me get a ticket through RCDM. Grace, the producer of Being Carried, had contacted RC Deaf Missions Malaysia (RCDM) and kindly sponsored tickets for members of the Deaf community to attend this special performance.

If it wasn't for this opportunity, I might not have been able to attend because, as I mentioned earlier, the tickets were already sold out. I truly appreciate this special opportunity and am thankful to Kimberly, RCDM, and the team behind Being Carried for making it possible for me to attend this special performance.
